Virgin on 'deserved' break
VIRGIN Racing are on a 'richly deserved' summer break, after a disappointing end to a promising weekend in Hungary.
The Dinnington Formula One outfit had high hopes for a strong finish in Budapest, after Timo Glock qualified fasted of the new teams' drivers.
But a mistake at the first corner saw him drop back, and he fell foul of blue flag trouble later in the race.
His team-mate Lucas di Grassi made a good start and he looked like he would be able to benefit from a quick pitstop when the Safety Car came out.
The pitlane was transformed into a hive of activity as most of the option-shod drivers rushed to the pits, and a number of the teams encountered difficulties.
Di Grassi was a victim of bad luck when a problem with the fitting of the left rear forced him to drive slowly to assess the problem and have a further new set of tyres fitted, which compromised his race.
Glock finished 16th, with di Grassi two places behind.
The German welcomed the summer break, but promised Virgin will come out fighting at the end of August in Belgium.
He said: "I think everyone is ready to enjoy the summer break now."
"Thanks to everyone in the team for all their hard work so far and I'm sure we can look forward to some good results in the rest of the season."
"I'm having a week's holiday and the rest of the break will be taken up with training, so that we all come back ready for action again in Spa."
Di Grassi highlighted his fastest lap at the Hungarian Grand Prix, after his tyre trouble, as a reason for Virgin Racing optimism, but was frustrated at the lack of reward.
"All I could do was push the car to the limit and in doing so I was able to secure the fastest lap of the new teams," he said.
"This just underlines how far our car has progressed, but I am disappointed that I wasn't able to get more from the race today."
Team boss John Booth was disappointed with the race result, but remained upbeat going into a raceless four week period.
He said: "This isn't the result we were hoping for as we had an excellent weekend up until the race and a car good enough to finish ahead of the other new teams."
"For now though our team head off on the summer break and to say that is richly deserved is something of an understatement."
"We have come so far since March and the guys have done an incredible job. I'm very proud of our team and I know there will be even more to come when we return to the track to race in Spa in four weeks' time."
