WORKSOP Town host one of their fellow promotion hopefuls on Saturday, and they’re out for revenge.

Ashton United put five past Worksop on the opening day of the season and sit four points ahead of Tigers in the Evo-Stik Premier table, albeit having played one game more.

Simon Clark, manager of Worksop, admitted he’d like to pay Ashton back for the 5-3 defeat on day one of this season.

“It’s a great game, at home, and we owe them one,” he told the Guardian.

But Clark will be hoping for a much better display than the one given by his side at Stocksbridge on Saturday.

Tigers picked up three points at Bracken Moor, but were far from convincing in the 2-1 win.

“The only positive is that we got three points,” conceded the manager.

“That’s massive at any point in the season, it’s nice to win and not play well.”

“We got gifted one, a great finish for the second and then missed a very good chance but we were fortunate to go in two up at half-time.”

“It wasn’t good enough, we didn’t do well enough with the ball at our feet.”

Worksop have struggled against teams lower down the table this season, so winning at Stocksbridge may have laid to rest a potential mentality problem for Clark’s side.

“Frecks said at the end of the game that this has finished that, it wasn’t a hoodoo because we had beaten Stocksbridge before, but it’s over now and the players know.”
