Sportsblog: Dinnington's World champion Kerry Louise Norbury

KERRY Louise Norbury gives an insight into her week as a professional fighter...

This weeks blog will be a little different as it will now start to feature a special piece which will include training tip of the week.

Saturday

We had a fantastic K1 training session at our gym with people from as far as Milton Keynes, Newcastle and Manchester it was really good to train with other people and try out my skills on them! We trained for two hours on practical application skills and finished with five rounds of sparring. After, we went out for a well deserved bite to eat.

Sunday

We had an early morning session starting at 10am. We had the same people as yesterday, plus many more from around the country. It was another application session working practically and on the pads. We worked on many different things including angles. We finished with four rounds of sparring.

Monday

I went for a run and I was going on a planned 6km run but when I got to the train line the barriers were down so I carried on running in a different direction and by the time I got home I had run 7km but my legs knew about it! In Thai boxing I worked on my new bag and I did 6x3 minute rounds and after I finished I went through my grading work. In K1 we did a circuit working with partners in the circuit there was shin conditioning, bag work, skipping with a heavy rope and with a speed rope. Pummelling, general fitness and a very good exercise: rugby tackling with a rhino pad (which is good fun but very hard work!)

Tuesday

Went to SDF and we started with three rounds of shadow boxing and then when we had warmed up we worked a few rounds of clinch work. Then we spent the rest of the lesson working on pads the first two rounds were high intensity where Shane called out techniques and I did them on the pads. We had the final two rounds as high intensity pad work.

In boxing we worked on foot work, movement, skipping and six rounds of bag work. We then finished with some, body sparring and foot work with partners.

Wednesday

I went for a 6km run in the morning. In open session we did Tabata training (7 x 20 seconds of exercise 10 seconds rest) with a whole variety of exercises. It was hard work but I love that kind of session. We did some head and foot work movement work in sparring class and had four rounds of sparring to finish.

Thursday

I went for a run and when I got back we did a kettle bell circuit that worked my whole body I only did one circuit as it was my first time using them but next time I will try two circuits.

In senior kickboxing we had a mega circuit with the focus mitts for 45 minutes and the last 45 minutes we did a mass circuit which switched from bags to fitness. It was a great sweat session!

Friday

It was my day off today and boy was I ready for it! I had an, all over body ache just telling me I had worked hard this week and i enjoyed just relaxing for a day!

Saturday

We went to another Chanoy seminar in Maltby for two hours we had a quick warm up and then it was onto the pads. we were told they were going to be 10 minute rounds today and we were going to be doing 3 x 10 minute rounds with one minute rest. When we had finished the 3rd round he said we should do another 10 minute round. We worked elbows, knees, punches, kicks, evasions and blocking. It was then our partners go. After both partners had been on the pads we did some pad work fitness work then some exercises press ups etc including 50 alternate sit ups and then we finished with a stretch. I enjoyed the seminar and got a lot of positive feedback onm technique, which I was very pleased with.

This weeks training tip.

A great exercise for all over arm and shoulder development is the clean and press with the kettlebells. Kettlebells are great for home use.

These training tips may vary from stretches to free exercise to weighted exercise, they are designed to motivate you

Please note, no exercise should be undertaken without consulting your doctor or a qualified trainer first.
