Sportsblog: A world champion's week

WORLD kickboxing champion Kerry Louise Norbury details her training in her weekly blog...

Tuesday

I went for a 5km run in the morning and in the afternoon we went boxing and started with a skip for about 10 minutes and then we did some work on the focus mitts

I then sparred with a very experienced boxer for three rounds and then I trained on the bags for about an hour.

Wednesday

In open session we did a fitness test which was do as many as possible of a certain exercise e.g. Press ups, burpees, punches, kicks etc. It's hard work but in a month's time hopefully the class and myself will have improved in our fitness the next time we do it.

In sparring class we did some pressure work K1 style which was really good for me and is just what I need.

Thursday

Went for a run for a 6KM run which took about 30 minutes

In senior class we did a circuit which included bag work, focus mitt work, plyometric exercises, speed work, strength exercises and general cardio. It was a good sweat session!

Friday

We went to Leeds to train with Chanoy again before he goes back to Thailand. I did 30 minutes on the bag and then he took me on the pads for 30 minutes and he told me that everything I was throwing was very good and he didn't need to correct me. I was very pleased with myself! I went back on the bag and did some combination work. I was very happy with my performance today!

Sunday

In K1 we did some conditioning work, including taking kicks to the thighs and body, checking kicks with our shins and tyre kicking. We also did bag work, blocking and skipping it was a tough lesson and my body was ready for a rest however I couldn't as kickboxing class was next and it was a sparring class but as I was conducting it I did my rounds on the bag whilst I watched over the class.

Monday

I woke up in an achy mess! My legs were killing and my back was hurting so I didn't run today but I still took part in my Thai lesson where we did focus mitt work after a little fitness.

In K1 we worked on movement and striking with certain tactical blocks etc. We moved onto knees and clinch work and then did a few rounds of sparring to finish.

Tuesday

We trained at SDF and worked mainly on clinch. Clinch with attack; clinch with defence and clinch and movement. We then moved onto pressure work on the Thai pads.

Wednesday

I did a 22.5km cycle today in the morning before an hours circuit training then followed by a great sparring lesson in the evening. Cris smiled today as our new kettlebells were delivered. He has told us to get ready as he says this type of training is very hard, but apparently very productive. Call back next week to see how it went!!

Regards,

Kerry-Louise
