Kerry's blog...
We had a great "Tots" class, (Our youngest age group class of 5-7 year olds) this week was Olympic games. They had to compete against each other doing kickboxing techniques and in between they had to do high jump, long jump (on our crash mat!) sprint, hurdles etc they had a really great time. Its great to add in other activities in the youngsters class form time to time to keep interest levels and have even more fun.
In our session we did a speed and coordination pad work session followed by techniques it was really hard as it makes you work very hard both physically and mentally. I did my 5km run today in my brand new trainers that I had fitted specially to suit my feet and running style so they were my perfect trainer, that was until I took them off and saw I had a big blister on the back of my foot!
I had a sparring session on Sunday which was good as I had not sparred in kickboxing for a long time (due to my K1 career) It was a nice change.
We then went out with Karen and Phil and had a little celebratory drink with them after her European title victory last week. I actually had a celebratory cup of tea but the thought was there!
I had another run with my new trainers and this time they were ok. I ran 2.5km and then did sprint intervals for the other 2.5km I was rather tired when I got home.
That afternoon Cris took a private lesson for a girl who is taking part in my interclub competition this Saturday. I sparred with her (controlled obviously!) she did well and I had an extra training session.
We visited one of our external clubs in Rotherham ran by another one of our instructors and Cris took the lesson and I trained in with the class, we did speed and coordination pad work, I am getting quite fast at the techniques now!
I went to SDF Sheffield and trained with K1 rules British champion Alex Mackenzie, we did seven rounds of sparring and some practical application work.
Unfortunately I must have kicked his elbow. I didn't feel anything during training but when I got out of the shower my foot ballooned up and I could hardy walk. So I felt sorry for my self for the rest of the day!
I couldn't go for a run on Wednesday as my foot was really bad. In open session we did 5's day. Basically, we all took it in turns to shout out an exercise and we did 5 of them it starts of easy and then we increase the exercise.
One of the last exercises we did was 5 press ups, sit ups, squat thrusts, burpees, tuck jumps, jumping squats 5 times! I had to alter a few exercises so as not to hurt my foot but still had a good lesson.
During the last class which is normally a sparring session I had to do some bag rounds of boxing skills instead. I still had a good lesson and still worked really hard.
My foot swelling had gone down a little and I could move my toes a little better but the pain was still there.
Started to prepare for this weekends interclub competition, me and Carl, the work experience boy, cleaned the gym and got things sorted. The classes were good and full of variation today, apart from me still not being able to train properly!
We are now stepping up the big push for the opening of two new 5-16 year old classes to be featured at the centre. They will be Thai boxing under the "Black Falcon Thai" banner.
We are doing free lessons for the first week on a first come first served basis.
