Sportsblog: Kerry Louise's week in detail

WORLD Champion kickboxer Kerry Louise Norbury writes exclusively for the Dinnington Guardian.

Kerry's week...

We had the last fight night of the year in Doncaster this week and it ran perfectly despite two out of four of our fighters losing, but they both put in 100 per cent effort, that's all we ask.

One of Cris' fighters defended his WAKO PRO British title and won with amazing style and in the last round knocked out worthy opponent John Lloyd from Leeds, a fantastic fight!

After the fights had finished, we had our club's Christmas party and it went very well with everyone having a great time.

We had the day time off on Monday as we had such a late night. In Thai we worked on my techniques for my grading and in K1 we did a pad power technique lesson.

In boxing we did some bag work, foot work, skipping and focus mitt work and the coach will be sending in my ABA form so I can get licensed and have my first boxing fight after Christmas.

This week I have been working hard on my grading techniques and revising the questions I may be asked on my grading.

On Wednesday I went for a run which was hard work due to the wind and weather. In open session we did a very hard session we did a pyramid session. Going from 1-10 and from 10-1 then moving onto the next set. One example was press ups and burpees. And after that lesson we did kickboxing sparring.

We went to a seminar on Sunday in Maltby, ran by Chanoy from Thailand.

He is one of the most well known Thai boxeing champions who beat Holland's Raymond Dekkers (check out YouTube!)

The seminar lasted for two hours and the rounds on the pads were 10 minutes long including knees and elbows.

We did half an hour of practical work scooping and blocking with counters and the finished with sparring.

It was good to train under Chanoy which I have done once before and he complemented my style and technique and I was pleased with that.

After the seminar had finished we had just enough time to have a quick protein drink and then we had an hour of K1 where we did a conditioning circuit and an hour kickboxing.

We did an all over body circuit finishing with 10 minutes of hard cardio work.

In sparring class I joined in with the points fighters for an hour. So today I have trained for five hours 30 minutes and in four different disciplines! Ready for bed now!

When I woke on Monday my body was aching from head to toe! I still had three hours of training to do today though. In Thai boxing we did 1 round on the bag and I round of exercise and after each one the exercise and technique changed.

I then worked on my grading techniques as I am grading for my yellow belt on Saturday, I am looking forward to grading as I haven't done one for such a long time and really enjoyed grading and I think they are important as it helps you focus on good technique and get them perfect and it also helps you see and understand the traditions of Thai as I have to do the first part of the Wai Kru (the pre fight dance) and also answer some questions which is helping me learn the Thai language and the history of Muay Thai.

In the final hour of the day in K1 we did some pad work that included blocking first then countering with full power. We also did clinch work and finished with three rounds of sparring.

When I woke on Tuesday I was even worse than Monday! Thank God we had the day off. In boxing we repeated last weeks lesson, 4x2 minutes skipping, 4x2 minutes bag work, foot work and focus mitt work. Although we are not doing as much variation in boxing as we do in K1 training I am enjoying it as it is helping me focus on my boxing skills for 1 hour without having to think about anything else and it is helping my hands get even sharper. The possibility of a boxing fight on the horizon is making me a little nervous but very excited!
