Kiveton teen so close to gold

A KIVETON teenager came agonisingly close to World Championship gold in his Under 22 fishing debut.

Matt Godfrey brought home an individual silver from this year's tournament in Italy, but was just 500 grams away from a fourth world title.

The 19-year-old moved up from the Under 18 section to compete in the Under 22 category in Mantova at the end of July.

He caught an incredible 260 fish in three hours on day one, 100 more than anyone else in the field.

On day two he just missed out on a perfect score and although he had the same number of points as Sjors Milder, Godfrey was beaten by the Dutchman's 500 gram advantage.

The University of Sheffield student also helped England to a bronze team medal.
