FORMER snooker world champion Shaun Murphy will be the star attraction when Worksop hosts a very special roadshow later this month.

The Paul Hunter Foundation Roadshow will be visiting North Notts Arena on 21st February and promises to be a treat for all snooker fans.

The foundation was set up in 2006 in memory of late snooker star Paul Hunter with the aim to give disadvantaged youngsters an opportunity to play snooker.

It will feature 2005 world champion Murphy with several snooker challenges, games, trick shots and coaching lessons taking place during a fun-packed evening.

There will be chance for youngsters to win trophies, snooker cues, t-shirts, pictures and keyrings.

The event has been organised by professional snooker coaches Daz Presgrave and Steve Mallendar, and it is hoped World Snooker Head Coach Chris Lovell and Jason Ferguson, chairman of the (WPBSA) World Professional Billards and Snooker Association, will also be in attendance on the night.

Presgrave and Mallendar run a snooker academy every Saturday morning at the arena, which has already produced young up and coming star Ash Carty and several new league players, with five teams now being run from Notts Arena.

Antony Coupe, from The Worksop Snooker League, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic what Steve and Darren are doing.”

“The game of snooker is not as popular as it used to be, especially with the younger generation so it’s great they are encouraging youngsters to participate and helping to find new talent, which is vital for the future and growth of our league.”

The roadshow is free to all and will take place from 7.30-9.30pm on Thursday 21st February.

Steve and Daz’s academy starts at 1pm every Saturday and is £4 per session for all youngsters. If they would like to join the academy there is a £15 joining fee which gives the youngsters a welcome pack featuring a snooker T-shirt with personalised initials on it and the WPBSA snooker logo.

It also gives you one hour free snooker courtesy of North Notts Arena, a pen and block of chalk.
