Clark holds on to Denton hopes

SIMON Clark has not given up hope of signing prolific striker Tom Denton, after Alfreton recalled him from loan last Friday.

Denton, who scored 11 goals in 11 games for Tigers on loan, was brought back by his parent club for a rash of fixures, including Sunday’ FA Cup game against Leyton Orient.

Although it is not known whether or not Alfreton will allow Denton to return to Sandy Lane to complete the remainder of his loan spell, Clark told the Guardian he hadn’t given up on securing the services of the 6ft 5ins forward.

“I would hope something could be done,” he said.

“I don’t know, it’s one of those things. I’m going to try and step in and see if I can do something with it.”

The club have put in a seven day approach for a striker in the meantime, ahead of Saturday’s visit to Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Clark was left frustrated as fixtures fell to the weather last Friday and Wednesday, with Tigers’ visit to Frickley and their game against FC United of Manchester called off.

He said: “We did loads of work in training on Monday and I’m already looking at training indoors on Saturday if the Stocksbridge game isn’t on, but players lose fluidity when they don’t play.”

“We’ll be okay, we’re fit enough, we just need a run of games and we need to make sure we’re ready and organised.”

Tigers are considering arranging a friendly game for Monday night, if their trip to Stocksbridge on Saturday is postponed.

One player who almost definitely won’t play at the Look Local Stadium this weekend, regardless of the weather, is midfielder Matt Young who has pulled a hamstring.
