Angling: Ready for wreck trip
TONIGHT (Friday) sees the annual Grafton AA Juvenile Angling Match, which takes place on the John Shaws length of the Chesterfield Canal.
The draw is taking place in the Lock Keeper car park at 5pm with the fishing from 6pm to 9pm.
There are still a few tickets left in both categories – the 10 to 12-year-olds and the 13 to 16-year-olds.
These are available from Ken Ward Sports, on Carlton Road, at a reasonable 2.
News from the coatal scene is that the boats out of Bridlington are taking big catches of quality cod to 20lb+ from the offshore marks.
The smaller boats are taking catches to 9lb in the more coastal waters. Mackerel are also starting to show, but are still somewhat patchy.
With the upcoming deep water wrecking trip a only two weeks away, things are looking good with skipper Tony Pockley reporting that the potential for really big cod is realistic if the weather holds out.
A request for Trevor Newton (or anybody that knows him) can you contact Roger ASAP regarding the trip.
Mick Pogson, of Worksop & DAA, informs us that Sandhill Lake is suffering from a blue/green algae bloom, and that Bassetlaw Council is monitoring the situation and will be placing warning notices up in the future.
Although it is advised not to swim in the waters or let your pets swim or drink from the lake, we are assured that it is still safe for anglers as long as they take adequate safety precautions and disinfect their hands during and after fishing.
It has also been noted that a number of pleasure anglers have been fishing in pegs 1 to 5, which is strictly forbidden, and any book holders found doing this may have their books confiscated and pleasure anglers may be barred from the fishery.
Finally, a thought from regular reader Brian Roe who, after watching the recent television advert, wonders if anybody has caught on pole and cormorant?
CLUB RESULTS
THE members of Stanley Street Sports and Social AC visited the match lake at Lakeside last Sunday for the first match of their summer series.

Jack Eavson, with another all-carp net a mere 2oz behind, took third from peg 36.

COMMERCIAL ROUND-UP
WE start this week at the Lakeside Fishery at Ranskill where, as you can see from the above club results, pole fished luncheon meat is a tactic that is not to be ignored.
On the strip ponds, Paul Dawson of Ranskill had a short three hour session, fishing floating dog biscuit on the first strip, and managed to amass over 100lb. This included 14 carp topped by a mirror of over 14lb.
On the carp pond, fishing buddies Mark Gibbs and James Melthorpe shared a 17-fish haul, which included four twenties and a mirror of 23lb 10oz from peg 1.
Over on the trout lake, Ian Thomas slipped his net under 12 fish to 8lb on his black buzzers cast on a flaoating line, with Worksop’s Ray Wilson banking 14 fish to 5lb on assorted buzzers on an intermediate line.
Up at Lodge Farm, Wednesday’s Over 50s Match was contested on the top pond.
Les Richmond pole fished meat on peg 54 for a winning bag of 34lb 5oz, with Reg Turner claiming the runners-up position with a level 33lb off peg 40.
Thursday’s Open on the signal pond saw the lake record broken by Brett Richards, who fished pole and pellet on peg 9 for 124lb.
Les Richmond used his favourite pole fished meat for 79lb 14oz on peg 7 for second place.
