DINNINGTON-based athlete Nigel Brookes is gearing up for July's British Masters event after victory in the South Yorkshire Veterans Championships.
Brookes finished first in the Over 40s 800m race with a time of two minutes 11.8 seconds.

He said: "I hit the front with 300 metres to go."

"Whilst it wasn't my season best time, it was a more tactical race."

"It's all in preparation for the British Masters at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham in July."

Meanwhile, fellow Rotherham Harrier and North Anston runner Jade Allen set a personal best on Saturday at a British Milers Club event at Sport City, Manchester, in the 800m race.

The teenager finished in fifth place.
