SUPERBIKE star James Toseland bounced back from disappointment at Donington to record a top 10 finish in Sunday's Dutch MotoGP.
His ninth place finish came as a relief after the Kiveton racer had fallen from his bike on the first corner just a week earlier at Donington in front of 90,000 fans.
Toseland was 13th on the grid for round nine of the MotoGP in Assen, but managed t
o make ground on several opponents to finish ninth.
Despite getting back amongst the points he said he is still looking to improve next time out.
Toseland said: "We were back in the top 10, which is important, but I've still got a lot of work to do."
Last week's disaster at Donington was especially galling for the rider as he wanted to impress in front of his home crowd. However, he insists the unpredictable weather conditions have hampered his form.
"I apologise to the fans because I know it must be frustrating to watch but I am committed to working my hardest to continue to improve and get the bike to where we need it to be,"said Toseland.
"It hasn't helped that we've had changeable weather at the last two events because we have such a short space of time to get the bike right."
The points gained for his ninth place finish, added to those earned by Tech 3 Yamaha teammate Colin Edwards for his third place finish, have helped to consolidate the team's fourth place position in the team World Championship standings.
"Overall, it's been a great day for the team in Assen and I'd like to congratulate Colin on his podium finish," added Toseland.
Team manager Herve Poncharal was quick to congratulate Toseland for his contribution after the heartache at Donington.
"I'm pleased for James because he has been riding at a competitive pace and he was fast in all conditions."
"After the disappointment of Donington it was important for him to get a solid result and both have helped us stay close to Ducati in the team championship."
Now the Kiveton racer is looking to the next two rounds in July to improve his and the team's standing.
He said: "We've got Sachsenring and Laguna Seca to look forward to over the next month and they are both tracks that I have raced at before."
"To an extent that helps with the feedback that I can provide the team but as I'm riding a totally different bike we still start with a clean slate, so we'll continue to work hard and try our best."
Despite recent disappointments Toseland is remaining positive for the future. He said: "I think to finish in the top six would be a real achievement for my first season in MotoGP, but my biggest aim is just to continue learning the tracks so that I can come back strong in 2009 and demonstrate my true capabilities."
