DINNINGTON Comprehensive pupil Sam Hanby gave his dad the perfect Father's Day gift – when he clinched two podium finishes during the Auto 66 Club Championship on Sunday.
Hanby qualified in second place for the trophy race, held at Elvington in York.

Despite pressure from his closest championship rival, he pulled off a daring overtake on the final bend on the last lap to finish second.

In the championship race, the teenager went one better, taking the chequered flag to finish first and increase his lead at the top of the table.

Proud dad Steve said: "It was a fantastic day – the best Father's Day gift I could have been given."

"Everything went his way and it seems that luck is in his favour again. Sam really was back on top form after a difficult last stage."

Hanby's next race will not take place until 9th August as he attemps to hold on to first place in the championship leaderboard.
