Friday 11th September
I successfully completed an all day first aid course from 10am – 4 pm, it was one of the best I have been on as it was all about real hands-on practice and it was very informative. We were meant to go to a Thai Boxing show in the evening but it was cancelled due to a bomb found in Doncaster! So we went to our friends and had a nice evening out.
Sunday
We had a well deserved lay in today but then it was back to training in the afternoon where we did a 90 minute circuit including bag work, skipping, plyometric work, explosive work, the speed ball and elastic training. We finished the class with rounds of sparring, Myself, Ryan Hamer, Shaun Gray, Leif Taggart, all World champions training together.
The sparring class was an open sparring class but we finished with a team event
Monday
Went for a run, the first one since my groin strain, I took it steady to start but after I knew it was ok I went at my usual pace and ran for 6km
In the Thai class we did a boxing session working on basics to 2 and 3 point combinations.
K1 class was a general run through of movement and blocking finishing off with 15 minutes of very light touch sparring putting everything into practice, I learn so much with this type of application and sparring work.
Tuesday
Today was the day of the charity event held at the Bradford Bulls ground. We arrived at 1pm and got straight on. The guys who were doing the event to raise money for young hero's were Andy who was doing 75 rounds and his brother who suffers from Downs syndrome was doing 25 rounds. The event went very well and apart from a few medical checks by Cris there was little injury throughout the day. Me and Jordan did 6x2 minutes of k1 at a very good pace almost like a fight just to give the guys a short rest and then they got back to it. Unfortunately some people that were expected to do some rounds with Andy and James never turned up so myself, Jordan and Luke stepped in and we did between 20 and 26 rounds each! I don't envy how he is going to feel tomorrow! I just want to say a great big and very proud well done to them both. It is a great cause and they did it very proud. WELL DONE!
Wednesday
Well I don't know how Andy feels today but I have got a swelling the size of a golf ball on my ankle. Cris wouldn't let me do my run so I strapped it up and went on the elliptical trainer which takes some of the pressure out of road running and I took it carefully. In open session we did a speed and reaction pad work session, it is always physically and mentally hard work as you have to keep 100% concentration throughout the whole lesson.
In senior lesson we did some more speed and reaction pad work and then we finished off with 2 rounds of sparring.
Thursday
Today we did 2 sessions of interval training. The first one was 6x2 minutes of skipping 10 seconds full sprint skip and 10 second normal over 2 minutes. Then we did exactly the same on the bags 10 seconds doing jab and cross as fast and as hard as possible and 10 seconds rest. It was very hard work but it is exactly what fighters need to do to prepare for the fight.
In the last class we started with grading techniques and then finished with the interval training again but this time we worked with partners 10 seconds on the pads 10 seconds rest over 2x2 minutes, then 2x2 minutes of interval skipping and we did this for an hour. We finished the class with a high intensity sprint finish for a final 2 minutes to finish us off for the night!
I have heard a whisper that Graham Smyth, the super fit Guardian reporter will meet my challenge in a couple of weeks time! Looking forward to that!
See you all soon, Kerry-Louise.
