Here is the latest installment from Dinnington's kickboxing champ...
Thursday
The second part of the Lanzarote trip was spent in Puerto Del Carmen as my mother lives near there up high in Tias. The first day was a great relax after the high intensity of spending a week training five hours a day in Club La Santa. We went for dinner at my mum's restaurant and when she finished work we went back and went to bed.
Friday
Today was another chill day and we had a couple of hours lazing in the sunshine, we had breakfast and lunch on my mum's back garden. We went out for a Chinese with Cris' sons who also live out in Lanzarote, we had a great time. Cris had already rung round the training camps we know over there. I knew he was cooking something up!
Saturday/Sunday
We went to watch my mum train her horse, it stays in a rustic ranch in the middle of no where. It was really interesting watching her.
We went to Arrecife and had a walk around while my mum did her kayak training. Her work have organised a 10km race for life but instead of a run they have decided on a kayak race. We then met up with Louis. Cris' oldest son and Cris took pictures of him on his bike (he is a tri athlete) and he also took pictures of me doing a few techniques on a mountain side (it was actually a mound of molten rock from the Timanfya volcano) it hurt my feet but the pictures came out well! It was the one from last week's blog.
Monday
As I thought, Cris had arranged training at a club called Blood Sweat and Tears in the old town, it is run by Vito. I didn't really know what to expect as the club is Vale Tudo and Thai boxing however we explained that I was not going to use ground work or elbow and he devised a lesson without these involved. The lesson was good, we worked a lot on speed and also counter with kicks. And with the heat and high altitude it was a good work out.
We went for a tapas lunch next to the sea and spent most of the day there just soaking up the scenery and peace. Later we went to a Spanish style bar and listened to a friend sing.
Tuesday
I went training at Powerhouse gym today with Ray Silverstrand and he asked Cris to take the lesson as he had two guys that were due to fight very soon. I trained with them both doing low kicks. We worked on blocking and defence as well as attacking and countering skills. Cris is hoping to do seminars out in the States for Ray, who is an excellent master and returns to his homeland regularly to teach the clubs he is associated with. We then finished off with about four rounds of light sparring.
Wednesday and Thursday saw the end to our break but here was no time for resting as we were fight correspondents for Fighters magazine on the Saturday night at a show in Telford and came home on Sunday morning ready for two hours training in the afternoon.
To bring my blog totally up to date I went to SDF gym and sparred with Joe, who is preparing for the World Championships in Croatia.
I was hoping to put into practice all the things I have learned but he is just so big and powerful at 86kg and me at 65kg. I could not do much sparring wise and I got some good rib conditioning from his knees! The technical side was excellent and again I added new things to my arsenal.
It's full steam ahead now into my training since I have been back and I am also now working at hitting my weight in time for my next fight. We have a Dan grading shortly and also my training partner Karen is due to fight an Italian for the WAKO European title on the 5th July so I am busy training with her in her preparation.
Its all go!!!
Yours,
Kerry-Louise
