DINNINGTON Town's sixth straight league victory has fired them to fourth in the NCEL Premier Division.

Despite cup disappointments, Steve Toyne's men are now undefeated in the league since mid-August, and keen to put more points on the board with a trip to Mickleover tomorrow.

A sunny Phoenix Park was the setting for a 3-0 win over Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Saturday, but Toyne refused to get carried away by the scoreline.

Ben Rosser put Dinnington ahead within a quarter of an hour after weaving through a packed Lincoln defence to fire home from eight yards. Twenty minutes later Danny Reet's 15-yard effort doubled the scoreline.

The visitors hit the woodwork twice before the break, and continued to make a game of it in the second half. But substitute Louis Axcell wrapped up the scoring with five minutes left after a powerful run by Rosser down the left flank.

"It was a good game, although they were a lot better than we thought they'd be and were quite unlucky really," he said. "They played some good football and deserved a goal at least."

"But thinking back to earlier in the season when we deserved results but didn't get them, it all seems to even itself out."

PRESIDENT'S CUP
Dinnington Town 1
Nostell Miners Welfare 3

ENFORCED changes put Dinnington on the back foot even before a ball was kicked in the Presidents Cup first round tie with Nostell Miners Welfare on Tuesday.

Town were behind after half an hour at Phoenix Park, in front of the 55 fans who braved the midweek rain. Ant Lynam equalised, but Nostell had their noses in front before the break through Tom Thornton's looping shot.

With 15 minutes left, Town had the chance to get back into the cup tie from the penalty spot, but Lynam's effort was pushed out for a corner. Craig Stephens made it 3-1 but Toyne was keen to put the defeat behind him.

"On Tuesday we were back to the story of injuries and players unavailable," he said.

"There were six or seven first team players who couldn't play, and I rested one or two. It was a disappointing result. We didn't have a lot of luck or play particularly well, but we'll just have to brush ourselves down ready for Mickleover."

Town's opponents tomorrow are above Dinnington in the table on goal difference, and they won't be underestimated after their last result caught Toyne's eye.

"This is a real six-pointer," he said. "They went to Hallam and were losing 1-0 and down to 10 men with 71 minutes to go, and they still ran out 4-1 winners. So we know they'll be up for it after that."

"It will be a test of how far we have come in such a small time. No-one's running away with the league. If we have the injuries and work commitments we had earlier in the season then our run won't last much longer."

"But if we continue to do as we have been, and keep the nucleus of the side fit and well, we can give a good account of ourselves," he added.
