A RUGBY coach from Aston has landed one of three positions created to promote the sport in former mining communities.
Olly Dixon has been appointed as the new Dearne Valley Community rugby coach.

The position is one of three to be funded by the Coalfield Regeneration Trust and the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

Dixon's new role is a 30-month post and his aim is to increase the number of student volunteers, train community coaches and set up after-school and lunch-time clubs.

The 23-year-old, who studied Sports and Exercise Science at Leeds Metropolitan University, will be based at Dearne Valley College and will be working alongside Kerry Callan, the college's Further Education Sports Co-ordinator, to continue to promote healthy lifestyles.

"I am delighted to have been appointed," said Dixon, who is currently involved in the game as head coach of Stocksbridge RUFC, and Rotherham Clifton Under 18 girls.

"I have been passionate about rugby from an early age and played the game for various clubs for many years."

"I am looking forward to working with local young people to increase interest in the game," he added.

For further details contact Olly Dixon on 07939 282632.
