THE new man in charge at Maltby Main will be building for long-term success.
The club announced this week that Steve Adams will be taking over as first team manager and the former Stocksbridge Park Steels youth manager knows he has his work cut out.

He told the Guardian: "When the board talked about looking ahead for more than one season it resonated with me."

"I told them in the interview it wouldn't be a quick-fix job, we need to get a structure in place similar to the one we had at Stocksbridge and bring a lot of youth through."

After working with the Under 18s and youth teams at Stocksbridge Park Steels, Adams felt it was time to step up into senior football.

He said: "I've been involved in senior football management before but I'd been up at Stocksbridge for seven years and I was looking to move up to senior football there, but they'd had a good season at County Senior level and Garry Marrow came in and did a good job at UniBond level."

"I was anxious to get moving up the ladder and applied for the Maltby job and I'm extremely happy to get it. I'm looking forward to starting work for them."

Adams has already begun preparations for the 2008/09 Northern Counties East Premier Division season and is casting his eye around for players.

"I've already begun to find out availability of players and I've got to take a look at the current staff, see who we've already got."

The new boss has confirmed he has an assistant manager in mind, but will not be able to make an announcement just yet.

"I will be bringing an assistant with me but I can't confirm who it is yet, the man I have in mind is on holiday at the moment and so I won't be able to confirm it until he's back," he added.

A Maltby Main statement said the 53-year-old was the right man for the job.

It said: "We interviewed a shortlist of four and Steve came across as a genuine person who wanted to commit to Maltby Main for the forseeable future."

"We didn't want someone just out to make a name for themselves and he assured us he would not do that."

The former Selby Town player has an eye for prodigious talent, having signed teenager Jamie Vardy for Stocksbridge Park Steels and watched him break into the first team, scoring 14 goals at UniBond level last season.

The new manager ended his Stocksbridge career on a high with a league title win for his Under 18 side.
