DINNINGTON boss Steve Toyne reflected on a mixed week for his side, that saw a cup exit against Hemsworth in midweek follow an impressive weekend win over Brodsworth.
The manager called Saturday's 2-0 win 'thoroughly deserved' and said that the result was due to the strong side on show.
"The team did well, it was a good team performance," he said. "Ben Rosser for me was outstanding, and so was Andy Sykes."
"It was also good to see Simon Mirfin back – he makes a big difference to us."
Unfortunately Toyne's men then went down 2-1 to Hemsworth on Tuesday in the Sheffield Senior Cup, and the boss was left to rue several missed chances.
"We had to make five or six changes on Tuesday from Saturday's win and that was reflected in the result," he said. "Normally we're good in the cups but this season we've been knocked out early."
"We still could have been three or four goals up at half-time, but credit to Hemsworth – they fought like Tigers. Thanks as well to the supporters who came, it's very much appreciated."
On Tuesday night, Town drafted in Luke Hands, Matt Smith, Toz Fogarty, Craig Cooke and Dean Conway. What a contrast the two halves were.
First half Town showed their quality and went into the lead on nine minutes when a great ball by Fogarty found Conway to head home.
As the game progressed chances came and went. On 21 minutes Gavin Allott made a run down the left and cut in to fire in a looping shot that hit the bar. A few minutes later, a Conway free-kick was saved on the line by the keeper.
On 40 minutes Allott shot wide of the post, and to finish the first half, a great Jon Somerset cross was finally put out for a corner when Town should have scored. These missed chances were to come back to haunt Town in the second half, as five minutes after the interval Barrick scored after a defensive mistake.
Town created few chances and were 2-1 down on 62 minutes when substitute Davis headed home. As the game came to a close Town had a chance to equalise but Conway missed the target.
Last Saturday, the side took on a familiar line-up to the relief of the band of supporters who travelled the short distance to Brodsworth.
Back in the team were captain Andy Sykes, Danny Lindley and Ben Rosser and to partner Grant Allott and Andy Potter in midfield was a welcome appearance by injury-hit Simon Mirfin.
Town took the initiative early in the game and could have been three up in the first 10 minutes. Two chances came to Gavin Allott but the best fell to Potter when he saw his shot deflected on to the bar and cleared to safety.
Town kept up the pressure and deservedly took the lead on 32 minutes when Grant Allott came away with the ball and threaded it to brother Gavin, who saw his first shot blocked but slotted in the rebound.
Gavin Allott's persistence brought just rewards on 40 minutes when he ran away from his marker to be brought down by Allen, the Brodsworth keeper.
