MALTBY Main's misery continued as a poor second half condemned them to a derby defeat at Parkgate.

The Miners started the stronger with debuting striker Chris Woods landing a header on the roof of the net, and Rob Branangan having a couple of early chances.

Parkgate claims for a handball in the box were waved away shortly after the half-hour mark, after Ryan Campbell's shot hit James Ellis in the midriff.

And Main were ahead four minutes before the break when a curling cross from Paul Staniforth presented Branangan with a great close range opportunity which he side-footed home.

The home side answered back in the second half, levelling on the hour after Kiean Gallaghen raced down the wing and shot low from the edge of the box.

Ex-Main midfielder Jordan Stock was desperate to score against his old team, but it was Campbell who hit the back of the net after another ex-Miner Luke Fletcher hit the bar.

Parkgate went further ahead with an 18-yard freekick from skipper Luke Smith on 80 minutes, and then Campbell slotted home a fourth with two minutes left on the clock.

A consolation from Scott McDonald in stoppage time made it 4-2, but Main manager Steve Adams said the second half performance had let the team down.

"We're really disappointed with the defeat after playing so well first half," he said.

"But we just didn't come out after halftime."

"Full credit to Parkgate though, they came out all guns blazing."

Maltby face Pickering Town at home tomorrow, with the visitors currently just one point ahead of Maltby in the table.

Adams said it was time to find a result after a string of losses, and also expected new signing Woods to settle in to the side.

"We're looking to bounce back," he said.

"Pickering are in the same area of the table that we are, so it's a game we need to win."

"We've had two poor defeats, conceding seven in two games, so we need to tighten up at the back and look for three points."

"Woods did well against Parkgate, and there's a lot more to come from him."

"He'd only met everyone once before the match, so I was pleased with him."

Maltby Main: Heald, J. Wragg, Staniforth (c), Ellis, McDonald, Dickman, Hancock (Mason 75), Baker, Wood, Branagan, Patterson (Shepherd 82). Unused sub: M. Wragg
