LAST Saturday saw the second match in the junior mini series with 20 young people turning up at the Riverside fishery at Scrooby.
The event was, as ever, reliant on the help of the stalwarts who gave up their Saturday evening to support the youngsters, so thanks again to Garry and Doreen Butt, Neil Nicholson, Tommy Preen, all the parents and carers and of course a big thank you to John for providing the water completely free of charge.
A number of Junior Worksop books were also sold on the evening. These books, priced at just £5, offer amazing value and enable the holder to fish a number of local waters including Sandhills and Woodsetts quarry pond, free of charge.
The next event in the series is to be held on the Chesterfield Canal on 12th July and the good news is that we can still offer places if there is anyone interested.
There are also still tickets available for the Grafton AA junior match which is to be held on the evening of Friday 19th June, with the draw at The Lock Keeper at 5pm with an entry fee of only £2 and a whole host of prizes up for grabs with registration via Ken Wards Sports on Carlton Road.
We also have news of two open matches to be held in the next few weeks.
The first is the Bob Gillbody memorial which is being organised through Jays Social Club at Langold and will be held on 29th June with fishing from 4pm until 9pm.
The entry is limited to the first 35 at a cost of £35 all in, with a pay out of all barring the £5 pegging fee.
You are able to register for this event either by calling in at Jays and registering with John the club steward or contacting him on 07970 626353. Please note a deposit of £5 will be required to confirm registration.
The next event is the Worksop National Squad open which is to be held at Sandhill Lake on Sunday 15th June.
The draw will be held at 8.45am with fishing from 10am until 4pm.
The cost of tickets is a reasonable £13 with registration or further details available from Ian Turner on 01909 484776.
Stuart Brumpton has asked us to thank all his well wishers and visitors who took the time and trouble to support him through his recent hospitalisation. We hope to see Stuart soon back on the bank.
And finally let’s not forget that Monday is the glorious 16th and the first day of the proper season with all of the region’s rivers open for all running water enthusiasts and news of two local waters that have been hitting top form.
The first is the Worksop and DAA Sandhill Lake with reports coming in of pleasure nets including quality tench, roach, bream and now the elusive carp that have been showing at the School end of the lake to a variety of methods.
The next is the ever-popular Grafton AA length of the Chesterfield Canal with the John Shaws length producing sizeable chub to fly casters as well as the more traditional methods.
CLUB RESULTS
