DINNINGTON'S opposition's coach agreed that the hosts took Yarnbury to the cleaners in the second half, after a poor first 40 minutes.
YORKSHIRE DIVISION TWO
Dinnington 44
Yarnbury 13
The game could not have got off to a worse start for Dinnington, as they conceded a penalty almost straight from the kick-off to give Yarnbury the easiest of chances to go 3-0 ahead.
Dinnington's early play was full of errors, brought on by Yarnbury's tactic of not committing players to the ruck.
This meant that when Dinnington broke there was too much traffic in their way and wrong options saw moves end abruptly.
They did, however, put one good move together and this led to Darren Cannadine scoring a try, but they conceded another penalty and then allowed Yarnbury to run almost unchallenged through their defence for a converted try, to trail 13-5 at the break.
Dinnington came out for the second half with some simple instructions; tighten the gaps in defence, stay on feet at the breakdowns to prevent a very officious referee from awarding penalties, and force Yarnbury to commit men to the rucks.
The changes worked almost immediately, and within five minutes of the start Matthew Starr broke down the wing from a line-out and fed inside for Jonathan Varey to score.
Dean Lax added a penalty soon afterwards, and Dinnington were on level terms.
The home side now had their tails up and they took the game to Yarnbury, forcing errors by regularly turning the ball over in the tackle.
A good drive by the forwards took play deep into the visitors' half before the ball was shipped out for Lax to score.
Cannadine converted and when Yarnbury made a mess of the restart, Dinnington's forwards took full advantage.
This time they only just got into the visitors' half before letting Lax loose from 40 yards to dance his way to the line. Cannadine converted again.
Any hopes Yarnbury had of staying in the game disappeared, as Dinnington continued to put in some strong defending and a Cannadine drop goal put Dinnington more than two scores ahead.
Play was now one way and Sam Kirk capitalised as Yarnbury lost the ball near their own line under pressure from Dinnington's forwards, to score a try.
Dinnington rounded off the scoring when scrum half Barry Yeend sold an outrageous dummy on half way, made 10 yards, and fed Lax to run in for his hat-trick from the 10 metre line.
Cannadine converted both tries.
Tomorrow, Dinnington take the long journey to Redcar to play in the first round of the Yorkshire Shield.
