WORLD kickboxing champion Kerry Louise Norbury writes her first blog of 2010 for the Dinnington Guardian.

Hiya everyone its great to be back and a happy new year to you all!
So a few updates as we have all been away on our Christmas break.

Just before Christmas I took my yellow and orange Khan (1st and 2nd belt) in Thai boxing over two solid hours and passed both grades with a first class pass.

We trained up until 23rd December and the gym was shut until the 4th January.

I have had just over a week off as I train and work the other 50 weeks of the year I think I deserve a little time off over Christmas!

For Christmas we stayed at home and just chilled out big style. I cooked a five course Thai meal for dinner as neither Cris nor I are not into turkey so I thought it was better to eat something we both liked rather than sticking to traditions. It was lovely even if I do say so myself!

Boxing Day has its own tradition for me as I love going to the pantomime and this year we went to Sheffield to watch Snow White with Toyah Wilcox as the evil step mother. Her voice was fantastic. We spent the rest of the evening on the Wii at a friend's house.
We visited our very good friends and God children during the break and in the New Year.

We had a great rest and a good chill out but the 4th January was here and I was ready to get going again.

I went for a run on the first Monday of the year and did 2.5 miles just nice and steady to break myself into exercise gently. I did my Thai boxing lesson and we did some blocking work and pad work. In K1 we had a knee session working in the clinch and just singular knees, finishing with light sparring.

On Tuesday Cris had a very important meeting in Lincoln where I walked up the massive hill to the cathedral in the ice and back down which was a great training session on its own! I must have walked at least three miles today. But on the way home the snow had settled badly so we were unable to make it to boxing.

We took the dogs out in the snow they had a great time but because of the snow I had to miss out on my run so we went in the gym and worked on the bike, elliptical trainer, and rower and did three circuits of weight training.

The weather was still too bad for running today but the gym was open so I did a bag circuit for an hour and in kickboxing we did three minute rounds of basic power and speed pad work.

I didn't have a rest as I was an odd number and worked the bag on my own.

I did three minutes in one stance and when the rest of the class swapped pad holders I changed stance so I was doing a double work load.

This first blog may be a little longer as I have a few things to announce: Firstly I am arranging two shows a year for the local clubs we have at the Lyric Theatre.

This is where Cris' fighting career very first started so its nice to return there.

We will have a ring in the middle and both days will provide a full days entertainment.

These will be on 13th February and the 4th December 2010 and will involve every one of our styles taught at the gym.

We will be having a brand new and fun competition for the children and youth of our local community with great prizes and this superb project will be well publicised, with regular press releases and photos sent to the Dinnington Guardian. Look out for details soon!

With brand new classes starting next week its now the time to fulfil that new years resolution, give us a ring today and book a free guest visit.

As of next week I will finish off my blogs with a regular training tip section, not always martial arts based, sometimes just for fitness, hope you enjoy it.

So as you can all see its a busy start to 2010 and Cris is busy working away at planning our fights for 2010 of which I will keep you closely informed.

Yours
Kerry-Louise
