DINNINGTON Town manager Steve Toyne has issued the following desperate plea to local business: "We need you."
Dismayed at losing several key players to richer clubs, Toyne believes the club is in dire need of a chairman and financial backing.

In the wake of what he calls 'devastating' departures, he told the Guardian: "We've lost Matt Griffin to Hallam, it doesn't look like Jonathan and Matt Wragg will be signing for us, Pierre Mercier wants a full-time wage and we can't even offer him a part-time wage, and Ant Lynam has gone to Shirebrook Town."

The loss of 44-goal hitman Lynam will perhaps be the hardest to swallow for Toyne, who is now faced with the possible break-up of his Northern Counties East Division One title-winning side.

The manager said: "These are devastating blows but it's what to be expected, we've been very fortunate to keep players as long as we have."

"The higher you go the harder it is with the money other clubs are spending. We've no chairman, no backer and we deserve a money influx."

"For the work we do on and off the field, supporting the local community and allowing boys and girls to play football, as well as bringing success to the area by winning the league, we deserve the financial support from the local businesses."

Toyne highlighted the relatively small amount of money it takes to advertise at Phoenix Park and challenged local businessmen to get behind the club.

He said: "It's only £9 a week for an advertising board at the ground. It's nothing really. There must be someone who wants to support an honest, hardworking club."

"It's disappointing that none of the business people from Dinnington have got involved. We need a chairman but we don't need all that much, just a bit of financial backing."

With several players already confirming their departure, Toyne encouraged supporters to remain positive and vowed to put a competitive side on the field for the 2008/09 season.

"You can't stop players from going when the're offered vast amounts of money. I ask our supporters to be patient and I will do my damnest to put out a winning side."

"I've never had a team that struggles and by hook or by crook I will have a winning combination next season."

One of the most disappointing aspects of Griffin's departure from Phoenix Park for the Town boss was that he didn't speak to Toyne before he signed on the dotted line for Hallam.

Toyne added: "He signed for them before he spoke to me. I suppose it's a compliment that he said he signed first because he knew I'd try to talk him out of it, but it's disappointing."

It's not all doom and gloom for Dinnington fans however, Toyne has promised some new arrivals in the coming weeks.

"There will be some significant signings to come. I've got lots of irons in the fire and one or two are already confirmed."

The club have confirmed they will host Sheffield Wednesday for a friendly fixture at Phoenix Park on Wednesday 8th July at 7.30pm.
