DINNINGTON Town are putting plans in place for a £1million development of their Phoenix Park ground to give the area's junior football a much needed boost.
The club, who are cheekily billing themselves as the biggest club in Rotherham, have put a project team together with the aim of planning and funding a massive improvement to the Phoenix Park facilities.

Club secretary Chris Dearns told the Guardian: "At the moment we've got no facilities at all for the juniors, no changing rooms or toilets and it's difficult for them to function at Phoenix Park."

"We've been a Charter Standard club for four years but we've seen no funding from it, so we've put a team together to try and get £1million to develop the ground and get more teams playing on it."

"There's a fair amount of work needed on the pitches and we also want to improve security, as it's not the safest area for the kids to play in."

The club believe they are well on their way to getting planning permission for the development, which would then allow them to apply for funding, but Chris says financial backing is needed now.

He said: "We've got to get £10,000 together to pay the architects and consultancy fees and we've got about £6,000 from sponsorship and club funds."

"So if anyone could help us with that we'd obviously be very appreciative."

The project team currently consists of Dinnington-based CS Surveying & Architectural Design, which will attempt to secure planning permission. Sports Consultants Plan4Sport are also on board to secure the funding.

After winning the Northern Counties East League Division One and securing promotion to the Premier League, Chris hopes the plans will have a positive knock-on effect within the local community.

He said: "The club needs to maintain momentum going forward, but we were worried our existing facilities would hold us up.''

''The club was only formed in 2000, and from that time we have made a great impact in the Dinnington community."

"We now have 14 different teams, but we have little or no facilities for the junior teams and limited facilities for the senior team."
