WIN! Tickets to see young swing orchestra

Doncaster Youth Swing Orchestra

Doncaster Youth Swing Orchestra

WORKSOP will be swinging to the sound of jazz this weekend as young musicians take centre stage at The Crossing.

Doncaster Youth Swing Orchestra will perform at the popular venue on Saturday 9th February as part of the Music @ The Crossing concert season.

The swing band forms part of the internationally respected Doncaster Youth Jazz Association and members are encouraged to achieve excellence by guru and musical director John Ellis MBE, who founded the association in 1973.

“There is something magical about the way in which a group of young people can be brought together with a common purpose and it never ceases to amaze me as to how much they can achieve with their single-minded musical dedication,” said Mr Ellis.

“We really like The Crossing as a performance venue and we’ve a really good programme put together.”

There are four orchestras in the association, which continues to work in the Doncaster area to promote a feeling of community and appreciation of creativity as part of a team.

The orchestras are firm believers in ensuring high quality recordings and their CDs are routinely made at London’s famous Abbey Road Studio.

Students at the association are trained in jazz, swing and rock and many are the young professional musicians of the future. Some return to play as alumni of the association in some very high profile concerts.

The Crossing’s concert programmer David Jordan said: “We have a real mix of concerts in 2013, from serious to light, and the new brochures are now at The Crossing and on the Music at The Crossing website.”

It’s good to see our first two concerts featuring really talented young people, since we believe very strongly in encouraging them.”

Doncaster Youth Swing Orchestra is at The Crossing on Newcastle Street, Worksop, on Saturday 9th February at 7.30pm.

Doors open 6.45pm. Tickets £9 full, £8 concessions, £4 under-16s available from The Crossing’s welcome desk or order from 01909 475421 or info@musicatthecrossing.co.uk. For more information visit www.musicatthecrossing.co.uk
