WIN! Tickets to Let’s Rock The Jukebox gig
It’s time to rock the jukebox with this week’s fantastic competition to win tickets to Past Masters’ latest show at Worksop Acorn Theatre on Sunday 3rd February.
The troupe will be celebrating the music of a whole host of great rock n’ roll stars including Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran , Bill Hayley, Billy Fury, Sam Cooke, Johnny Cash, Mark Bolan, Gerry Rafferty and many more.
The show’s date is exactly 54 years after the music world lost three great rock n’ roll stars in a plane crash - Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper.
A show spokesman said the Let’s Rock The Jukebox ‘Rockin’ At The Pearly Gates’ would guarantee audiences a fantastic trip down musical memory lane.
“Join us to celebrate their music, along with the music of other great rock n’ roll stars who passed away, many of them far too young,” he said.
“Expect to see great live music from the fifties, sixties and seventies performed by a group of musicians that were in the thick of it at the time - along with a few that were too young but still love the music. If you were there then, you should be here now!”
Born Charles Hardin Holley - changed to Holly after a misspelling on a contract - he had several hit records, including a number one, in the US and UK, with That’ll be the Day in 1957.
A singer and guitarist, he was inspired by Elvis Presley after seeing him at an early concert in his home town of Lubbock, Texas.
Richard Valenzuela was the first Mexican American to break into mainstream music, after being discovered by record producer Bob Keane, who changed his name to Ritchie Valens.
He had made three albums and achieved a number two chart position in the US with his composition Donna - about his girlfriend - in 1958.
His rock ‘n’ roll re-working of the traditional Mexican song La Bamba - on the B-side of Donna - has also received acclaim. The Big Bopper had been a record-breaking radio DJ - with a 122-hour marathon stint - and reached number six in the American charts with his record Chantilly Lace.
Tickets for the 7.30pm show on Sunday 3rd February are priced £12 and can be bought by calling 01909 501817.
