PANTOMIME season got into full swing as Worksop Light Operatic Society took to the stage with their production of Aladdin.

From Tuesday 15th - Saturday 19th January, the popular group performed to audiences at The Soundwave Art of Life Centre, on Carlton Road - formerly the Worksop Regal.

Snow fell heavily across Bassetlaw before the weekend’s performances, threatening to cause havoc. But, of course, the cast and crew pulled together and the show went on.

And Phil Williams, local representative of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association sent us his review of Saturday night’s performance.

“This was traditional pantomime well directed by Joanne Lassmans making good use of the limited stage space and also using every possible means of access and exit to the stage area - good organisation,” said Mr Williams.

“Musical director Brady Mould controlled the wide range of music very well with good interpretation and also with a good balance between the pit and stage.”

“There was a nice mixture of youth and experience on stage and the combination worked very well.”

“Good performances from Ashley Kilby and Deanna Malbon as Aladdin and Jasmine, both vocally and dramatically together with Zoe Nelson as Izzabella.”

“Stephanie Oakes and Alix Poxon were superb as the two comic policemen, true all round performers and names to watch out for in future.”

“The main comedy content was in the hands of the very experienced Lloyd Hawkins and Steve Rowan and they certainly delivered what was required.”

Mr Williams commented on the ‘very good’ choreography and dance routines from the senior and junior teams, co-ordinated by choreographer Michelle Holland.

The junior team was provided by Worksop’s own Donna Pressley Dance Academy.

He continued: “Good sets, lighting, costumes and sound all added to the performance.”

“It was great to see the younger members take on so much, I am sure they learned a lot from the senior members and they certainly should hold their heads high after this production.”
