Marr set for Leadmill in March
JOHNNY Marr, one of the most celebrated and influential guitarists in the history of contemporary music, returns next year with a debut solo tour.
Sheffield is his local stop along the way where he will play The Leadmill on 18th March 2013.
The dates follow the much anticipated release of his first solo album The Messenger on February 25th.
Already winning critical acclaim, The Messenger is being previewed by the title track which is currently attracting much radio play.
Marr’s current resurgence has also been supported by his recent Q Hero Award and by NME’s Ultimate Band feature in which he was named above fellow guitar legends including Jimi Hendrix, John Squire and Jimmy Page.
Recorded in Manchester and Berlin, the album sees Marr contributing vocals, guitar and production.
It was mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright who recently collaborated with Marr on the remastering work for The Smiths’ box set Complete.
It finds Marr’s vocals leading a sound which mixes elements of angular art-rock, indie and rock ‘n’ roll.
Song titles the album include The Right Thing Right, I Want The Heartbeat, European Me, Word Starts Attack and Upstarts.
Tickets are already on sale priced £19.50 Book online at www.leadmill.co.uk/buy or call 0114 221 2828.
