X Factor star joins care centre celebrations

BALLOONS, dancing and an X-Factor sensation helped celebrate 20 years of the Swallownest Care Centre.

It was smiles all round at the Chesterfield Road care home as staff, residents and relatives came together to mark their two decade milestone.

Singing sensation Alan Turner set off the celebrations with a hour of songs from across the decades.

Manager Carol Bradley is 'very proud' of the home and praised all the staff for their hard work.

"We have so many long-standing residents and members of staff, we decided that 20 years was well worth a party," she said.

"There was a really lovely atmosphere with all the residents singing and dancing before they tucked into a buffet."

The longest-serving staff member at the home, which houses 65 residents, is assistant cook Sue Jackson.

"I absolutely love my job here. I was already here a few days before we opened to residents and I love the staff and the older people," said the 49-year-old.

Even cooking 65 meals three times a day doesn't seem to wear Sue down, she added: "It can be exhausting but I just like seeing their faces when you've made something that they really like."

Resident Sandra Maxine White, 65, has lived at the home for two years and thinks staff certainly has something to celebrate.

"I think it's one of the best homes in the country. It'll never be like my home –- but it's about as close as I can get."

Alan Turner, who faced the wrath of Simon Cowell on the X Factor show, said his career had gone from strength to strength since the show last year.

"I'm playing five or six gigs a week in pubs and clubs. Things have really taken off," said the 24-year-old, who lives in the Swinton area of Rotherham.
