What future with the BNP?

WE are lucky enough to live in a land where anyone can choose to make a stand for what they believe in.

In politics, this translates as standing as and voting for councillors and MPs, who make the important decisions to shape the way we live.

Last week, Maltby was one of two Rotherham wards to choose a BNP candidate to represent them on the borough council.

Altogether, 702 Maltby residents picked Will Blair, who has since set his targets to tackle as crime and the state of our roads, in an interview with the Guardian.

These topics are no different from the vote-winning quotables spouted by many a politician.

So why does Mr Blair need the Union Jack rosette on his lapel to win votes?

It will be interesting to see how the political landscape shifts in the coming months and years, and how Rotherham reacts to having the BNP as its third-largest party.

THIS week we also feature the story of a Dinnington family who have reacted in a very positive manner after finding out their teenage son has leukaemia.

After seeing the great work of PACT Julie Bird and her family and friends have helped arrange a fun day for Ben Harrison.

As 15-year-old Ben begins chemotherapy, the fancy dress and activity day - on Saturday 24th May - is a great way to say thank you to PACT and draw attention to their efforts.
