Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood Community Safety Partnership is backing a new scheme to create Community Ambassadors in Bassetlaw.

Working on behalf of Bassetlaw Action Centre, the ambassadors will have an interest in helping people who live in their local community, address issues and concerns and work with local agencies.

A community ambassador has already been created in the Harworth area but more volunteers are needed for Manton, Sandy Lane and Rhodesia (Worksop) as well as Bircotes.

Gerald Connor from the Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood Community Safety Partnership said: “This scheme adds to a network of people who already support our communities, from your local councillor to your tenants and residents association representative. “

“It is about having greater local resources to help, support and signpost residents and families to obtaining the best possible service and support within their community. The more points of access the better.”

The community ambassador roles are open to anyone over the age of 16, preferably with a background in community support.

The volunteers will have three days of full training as well as on-going support in the form of monthly Partnership Plus meetings with Bassetlaw District Council, Notts County Council, Victim Support Health Service, Fire & Rescue Service, Police, Local Schools, Youth Service and A1 Housing.

If you are interested in supporting your local community and would like to know more about becoming a volunteer community ambassador contact Dave Bacon on 01777 709650 or email him at dbacon@bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk
