VIDEO: Compare the Meerkats ...at Anston Butterfly House

STAFF at Anston Tropical Butterfly House hope to hear the pitter-patter of tiny paws after Stumpy the Meerkat has found a mate.

Mrs Meerkat moved into two-year old Stumpy's enclosure at the wildlife centre this Spring.

And in less than two months time staff hope Mrs Meerkat could be having some pups of her own.

"They are probably some of the most popular animals we have here now, the children just love them," said centre manager Kim Bellis.

"I could just watch them for hours. They just love to play and sunbathe."

The pair are housed a large outdoor enclosure and are fed every day on a diet of meal worms and fruit.

"We try to make the enclosure as natural as they would find it in the wild, with limestone for them to play and dig in."

"It's just a case of feeding, watering, and cleaning them as well as health checks everyday but they are quite self-sufficiant."

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is open every day.
