Talented youngsters design own T-shirts at after school club

Creative kids put their imaginations to the test when they designed their own T-shirts.
Pupils at Blyton cum Laughton Primary School were given the chance to become designers at an after school club.
They worked with teachers and parent Iain McDonald, who runs a T-shirt design company called CVC.
Assistant deputy head and year six teacher Lorna Batey said 54 pupils had already signed up to the club.
She said: “They do three sessions.”
“The first one is learning about design and what makes a good corporate image.”
“In the second session they learn about the kind of designs they can put on a T-shirt, the positioning of it for best effect and the best colours to use on a white background.”
“Then they print their design out on their own T-shirt to take home with them.”
It’s the first time the school has run this club and it’s been a resounding success.
“We offered it on a first come, first served basis. The ones who have already done their T-shirts are wanting to sign up again to do another,” said Mrs Batey.
The design club is open to seven to 11-year-olds in key stage two.
It costs £6 in total, which includes the T-shirt.
Mrs Batey, who has helped with the sessions alongside other teachers, said the children had come up with some great designs.
“We have had the jungle, cartoon characters, and alien creatures incorporated into names, “ she said.
