Stricken lorry under Retford Road bridge closes road and suspends trains
Retford B6079 road closed (w121217-5)
EMERGENCY services are working to free a lorry which is stuck under a bridge in Worksop.
The B6079 Retford Road is closed at the roundabout turn-off, just before the railway bridge.
A Notts Police spokesman said they were called to the incident just after 12 noon today, Monday 17th December.
No-one has been hurt but specialist crews are working to release the lorry from under the bridge.
Northern Rail train services are currently suspended in both directions between Worksop and Retford until further notice.
An spokesman for Network Rail said: “The vehicle is well and truly wedged under the bridge and our teams are having to cut it out.”
“That is what is taking such a long time. Normally in cases like this we can let the tyres down and remove the vehicle easily. But in this case it is really lodged.”
The lines will only re-open once the vehicle is dislodged and the bridge has been inspected and declared safe.
Motorists travelling to and from Retford should use the alternative route via the A57 and A1.
