SLIDESHOW: Maltby festival in full swing

COMMUNITY spirit is shining in Maltby this week, with the town festival attracting crowds to all sorts of events.

There is plenty to see and do all week, with the final event being the community sports day at Coronation Park this coming Saturday.

Festival spokesman Donna Sutton said the commitee had benefited from some fantastic new members who were all working hard to make sure the week goes with a bang.

"With the credit crunch getting things in a downwards spiral, we need a community event like the festival to get out spirits up," she said.

"The timetable is going to be a bit different this year, but we are determined to make this festival an unforgettable event for all the people of Maltby."

The events group has secured 5,000 funding from Maltby Town Council, along with extra cash from local charities and Hargreaves pit social fund, and has organised a variety of events.

Other events during the week include a Wild West night, an art exhibition, a camp-fire evening with singing and food, as well as a teddy bear's picnic and community sports day.

Said Donna: "We are really grateful to Maltby Town Council for their help, and hope people will come along during the week to make it a huge success. And we still need a King and Queen, so please get in touch."
