A WORKSOP thug who was caught in possession of a metal bar days after attacking a pub landlord has been sent to prison for six months.

Dale Catton, 21, from Clayland Avenue, had been barred from The Three Legged Stool after the landlord suspected he had been smoking cannabis in the pub car park, Worksop Magistrates’ Court heard.

But he was in the Raymoth Lane pub the following day on 14th September last year. He was asked to leave several times before the landlord attempted to move him.

Catton told him he would ‘knock his top rack out’, said Kate Beardmore, prosecuting.

“He punched him to his face causing his nose to bleed,” she added.

“The defendant then smashed the panel of glass on the door.”

Elizabeth Rowley, defending, refused her client had punched the landlord.

“The complainant never said it was a punch. The defendant turned and swung and caught his nose causing it to bleed,” she added.

He was convicted of common assault following trial on 9th January. While on bail on 22nd October 2010, CCTV caught Catton in Victoria Square with a 2.5ft metal bar down his trousers. He admitted to possession of an offensive weapon.

District Judge Baker said: “The assault is on a landlord who is simply carrying out his public duties. You were aggressive and when you swung at him his nose bled and he was pushed up against a wall.”

He was also barred from the pub for 12 months.
