Security team wins top award

THE security team at Worksop’s Priory Shopping centre has won a top award.

The team of three has been named as regional winners for the Midlands by the British Security Industry Association in its annual Security Personnel Awards 2013.

Nick Fenech, Calum Cooper and Tom Bancroft, work closely with Worksop police to help reduce crime in the town.

In 2012 they successfully undertook CPR on two shoppers, helped raise £1,000 for charity and also won an award for excellent service.

Last year Nick and Calum were given a Guardian Rose for saving a man’s life who had collapsed outside Iceland, and for helping a young man get his first job.

The pair went on to win the Guardian Angel award at the Guardian’s award ceremony in November.

Centre manager Lynette Bray, who entered the team, said: “The security team have achieved so much over the last few years and their enthusiasm, professionalism, teamwork and communication have made the centre and the wider community a safe place to be.”

“I am really proud of them, this is the third award they won in the last four months and it really is a testament to the hard work and dedication they show every day in their work.”

Each member of the centre’s security team has received valuable training from the East Midlands Ambulance Service and completed advanced first aid courses.

They have played a huge part in helping to reduce crime at the centre which has contributed to an overall reduction in the town by 19 per cent.

As a regional winner of the BSIA’s awards, the centre’s security team will go forward to the national competition which will be judged at the end of March.
