Work has got underway to transform an unused Dinnington industrial unit into a swimming pool.

After receiving full planning permission from Rotherham Borough Council in August last year Aquafyn Training have hit the ground running.

Work has already started to turn the industrial unit into a swimming and teaching venue using state of the art green technology and Aquafyn hope the work will be completed in the summer.

The new venue will house a 12m by 8m swimming pool, changing facilities and cafe.

Bookings are already being taken for the children’s swimming lessons which will be held at the pool on weekdays from 4.30pm and Saturdays from 9.00am.

Aquafyn Training was founded in 2009 and is currently based at Todwick and Wales Primary Schools where they hire their swimming pools five days a week.

The company teach children from two and a half years old through to club level.

Sara Fynney from Aquafyn Training said the Dinnington site would offer fantastic new facilities for youngsters learning to swim and be a place for the whole community to enjoy.

She said: “The current pools we are using in the two primary schools are quite old and they are not big enough for children to progress further when they are confident enough to start doing lengths.”

“Those pools we still be operating, but we will have Dinnington as well which will be a much bigger pool.”

The pool is on schedule to be completed by the end of July and will open for business straight away.

“Work started this week on digging the actual pool itself out and everything is on track for a summer finish,” continued Sara.

“We wont just be doing swimming lessons. It will be a great asset for the whole community with pool parties, public lessons as well as swimming lessons.”

“It will also be good for local schools who are currently having to go out of the area to get to swimming pool.”

She added: “ We are so thrilled to be able to finally offer such a great facility for people of Dinnington, especially after the close of their council pool in 2008.”

The centre will be available for public training sessions, private hire, swimming lessons, pool parties and many more activities.
