South Yorkshire Police are holding a free family open day at the Lifewise Centre in Hellaby tomorrow (Saturday).

The event is being run in partnership with Rotherham United Community Sports Trust and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, with the support of Children in Need.

Project officer Andy Foster from South Yorkshire Police said: “The Lifewise Centre and Rotherham United Community Sports Trust want to encourage families and their children to come and visit this unique facility with this free event.”

“Partners will be on hand to offer advice on a number of subjects including home and fire safety, basic computer skills and crime prevention.”

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust will be running a number of sports activities throughout the day and carrying out free health checks.

There will also be a face painter, officers from the police firearms support group, and a fire engine as well as the chance to win four tickets to a Rotherham United Football Club game, a signed shirt and football and other prizes in a raffle.

The Lifewise Centre is a purpose built facility with a life size set of a small town with houses, shops, an interchange and full size bus, a park, and a police station with a cell.

Mr Foster added: “People are invited to call in anytime from 10am until 2pm. It’s an ideal opportunity to visit this unique facility and have a chat with our partners.”

Rotherham Community Transport is supporting the event by offering a fixed return fare of £3 from Water Street in Rotherham town centre. Seats must be booked in advance.

To book your journey call Rotherham Community Transport on 01709 517100.
