NEARLY 200 children from across the Gainsborough area came together to take part in the annual Cross Country Championships.

Pupils from 12 different schools descended on Lea Park for the competition organised by the Gainsborough and District Primary Schools’ Sports Association.

Jay Taylor from Charles Baines was absolutely delighted with finishing in first place for the boys.

“I never thought I could run that fast, it was amazing,” he said.

Erin Green from Scotter won for the girls and added: “To come first was brilliant - I loved going through the wood and it was really exciting.”

The school results saw Saxilby, Charles Baines and Ingham winning their relative school size competition but the overall champions were Saxilby who received a rousing cheer from all the spectators and teams.
