Fight to re-open Worksop’s custody suite

ONE of the Notts’ first Police and Crime Commissioner candidates has vowed to get the custody suite re-opened at Worksop Police Station.
Paddy Tipping was campaigning with other Labour party members outside the station on Potter Street.
He said if he was elected on 15th November he would immediately get to work on trying getting the custody suite re-opened.
The town’s custody suite was closed last year despite a 1,000-strong petition being handed to the Police Authority.
The closure means defendants already in custody, in relation to offences in Worksop and Retford, are dealt with at Mansfield.
Mr Tipping said: “The custody suite has been closed for financial reasons and what it means is that the people of Worksop are losing out.”
His pledge was backed by Bassetlaw Council leader Coun Simon Greaves, who said the council would work with the new Notts Police and Crime Commissioner.
“There is a clear case for re-opening the custody suite in Worksop for the whole of Bassetlaw,” Coun Greaves added.
At the time of the closure Notts Police said there were plans in place to ensure a first class service to the public of Worksop and Bassetlaw was provided.
