A MALTBY teenager who was found hanging from a tree in February took his own life - an inquest heard this week.
Adam Fisher, 17, of Upperfield Close, was discovered by a dog walker in woods close to Huntington Way on Saturday 10th February.
He had been out drinking with his friends in Maltby the night before and seemed upbeat when he left them at 1am.
But the following morning at around 9.40am, police were called to the wooded area where Adam had committed suicide.
The plasterer, who had lots of friends, would have been celebrating his 18th birthday next weekend. His death has left his family and friends distraught.
At the inquest in Rotherham on Wednesday, a pathologist's report said Adam's death would have been quick and painless - information which Deputy Coroner Fred Curtis hoped would be of some comfort to Adam's family.
The court also heard a statement from Adam's girlfriend, Tara Whatley, who was concerned about his behaviour in the run up to his death.
"In September 2006, I noticed a difference in Adam's behaviour. He began to hang around with older lads, was drinking more and started taking drugs," she said.
"I know he experimented with cocaine and taking ecstasy with alcohol."
"He owed 100 to someone, I believe it was for drugs. Most of his wages went on last week's drugs," she said.
Miss Whatley said that Adam's favourite programme was Most Haunted and that he believed in ghosts.
She said Adam had once asked her what she would do if he hung himself from a bar which he had fitted in his bedroom himself.
But said she still could not believe he would take his own life.
"I'm very upset about his death. He was planning to learn how to drive and go on holiday. I'm totally shocked."
Mr Curtis said that in the days leading up to Adam's death, everything seemed to be normal. Adam had been to work as usual and nothing seemed to be amiss.
However, Mr Curtis, said Adam, had been affected by the death of his father in 2006.
"He didn't speak about it but there was a change in him after this time," he said.
"He had been drinking more and his behaviour had been different."
Mr Curtis said there was no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved.
"Adam died at his own hand by hanging himself from the tree. There was no communication from Adam to suggest something like this was on his mind."
"But there are a number of matters that indicate problems within Adam's mind. His father's death, he was drinking more heavily and also taking drugs. That lead to money problems."
"On the other hand he was making good progress at work and appeared to be growing up. But he was at a difficult age," he said.
"What was going through his mind at the time, sadly we shall never know. I am satisfied that he intended to do this and record a verdict of suicide."
