Carnival is here!

HARTILL will be bursting at the seams tomorrow as visitors flock to the annual carnival and show.

HARTILL will be bursting at the seams tomorrow as visitors flock to the annual carnival and show.

Every summer the tiny village is transformed into a frolic of family fun, with its parade of floats and marching bands, shire horse and pony show, dog agility and obedience team, vintage tractor and car show, stalls, the Pantastics Steel Band and a fairground.

Jackie Newbold carnival spokesman said the show will feature an exceptional day of popular events.

"The Gardener's World themed parade of floats and marching bands will start at 12.15pm and proceed through the length of the village before arriving at the show field for the official opening of the show."

This year Harthill Show will be opened by John Bauer, gardening expert with BBC Radio Sheffield, followed by the judging of the parade and the fancy dress competition.

He will also host a Gardner's Question Time in the main marquee.

"Shire horse judging will begin at noon," said Jackie.

"And the grand parade of shires and prize giving will take place at 4pm, this really is a spectacular not to be missed."

Jackie has promised the whole afternoon will be fun of full with a variety of activities.

"We have an acrobatics display team too, lots of stalls including cakes, crafts, games raffles and children's tombola and in the Harthill-with-Woodall Women's Institute marquee a Four Season's display competition and a petite flower arranging competition," she said.

"Chapletown Brass Band will play throughout the afternoon and a fantastic carnival roast will provide food for the visitors during the afternoon."

"We invite everyone to spend the day with us and enjoy the fun of a real country carnival and show within the picturesque village of Harthill."

Admission charges for the show are 2 for adults and 1 for concessions and children.

There will be limited free parking and facilities for the disabled are provided.

FOLLOWING the carnival and show an evening concert has been organised by the Harthill and Thorpe Choral Society.

The event will take place in the main marquee at 7.30pm.

"This concert promises to provide a wonderful evening of entertainment from the Cantamus Girls' Choir and the Sheffield Senior Youth Orchestra," said spokesman Jackie Newbold.

Tickets are available costing 7.50 for adults, 4 for children and 6 for concessions from Tanimara Stationers, Main street, Harthill or by telephoning Michael Bishop on 01909 770257.
