CARING SUE IS OUR LATEST ROSE WINNER
A CARING Maltby woman who kept a bedside vigil for a friend and helped him fight back from a life-threatening illness has been presented with the coveted Guardian Rose.
Sue Bailey kept watch over Maltby Town Councillor Keith Stringer when he was admitted to hospital with stomach ulcers.
The assistant clerk, who turns 56 on Sunday told Mr Stringer to "get back here" when he was undergoing resuscitation. And Mr Stringer says this act helped inspire his fight for survival.
"I knew I was dying and was having an out of body experience in which I could see a beautiful meadow.
"However, I kept hearing Sue's voice from the bottom of the bed and that kept me going. I have had lots of support from friends, relatives and fellow councillors and i'd like to thank them all for what they have done."
He added: "Sue really deserves a Guardian Rose. She's so helpful and big-hearted and will do anything for you - she's just that sort of lass."
Sue also rushed Keith's wife Carol to hospital when he took a turn for the worst and helped out with things like shopping to keep the couple going.
Carol said: "I can't thank her enough - she's been absolutely brilliant. She went the extra mile for us - she wasn't asked - she just came and said 'right i'm doing this."
Sue, who has been working for the town council for seven years, also organises charity fundraisers along with her work running the council and assisting councillors.
She was presented with a Rose by Keith and Maltby councillor Jenny Andrews during a presentation at the town council offices.
"I'm highly honoured to receive a Guardian Rose. It's just what any good neighbour would do and I really enjoy running the hall and meeting members of the community." Sue said.
