Bus shelter is a belter for OAPs
A TWO-YEAR battle to get two bus shelters along a Laughton Common Road has finally been won by campaigners.
Councillors, police officers and community groups were united in their cry for somewhere for bus users to escape the wind and rain.
The two new shelters on Rotherham Road have now been built by Rotherham Council at an estimated cost of 6,000 each.
"This has been a good achievement, but we're hoping to get two more shelters," said Malcom Hindley, who represents Laughton Common on Thurcroft Parish Council.
"Buses to Meadowhall, Sheffield, Rotherham and the hospital go along this road frequently, and lots of elderly residents also live nearby."
He was joined in the campaign to get the shelters by Pc Stuart Conner of the Dinnington Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Neighbourhood watch co-ordinator for the village Tina Meekins says she hopes the shelter doesn't get damaged.
"I hope it's left alone as there are a lot of elderly people who will be really grateful to be able find somewhere to shelter."
