A SERIES of booklets to help people with learning disabilities access healthcare services have been created by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

The booklets use clear images and language to describe a journey through situations including visits to the opticians and dentist, stopping smoking, and breast and cervical screening for women.

RDaSH acute liaison nurse Glynis Smith said: “We believe that learning disabled people deserve equal access to healthcare services, but research shows that they experience poorer general health and are three times more likely to die early than the rest of the general population.”

“We are fortunate that our service users are as passionate about making improvements and raising awareness as we are. Their feedback plays a major part in shaping services and we are grateful to them for their help in producing the booklets.”

The booklets are free to download from the trust’s website at www.rdash.nhs.uk
