Body found in Thrybergh Park identified as local man Peter Fell
South Yorkshire Police are wanting to find any relatives of a former Malyby miner found dead on farmland near to Thrybergh Country Park, Rotherham.
DNA evidence confirmed that the body was 82-year-old Peter Fell, believed to be from the Scotch Springs Lane area of Stainton and reported missing last September.
His body was found at around 3pm on Sunday 14th March.
Mr Fell was known to be a keen walker and user of public transport and in later life he often visited local beauty spots.
His neighbours reported him missing in September, which led to extensive enquires in the weeks and months following his disappearance.
However Mr Fell was never found and officers believe he had died shortly after he was reported missing.
Following a post-mortem, it was concluded that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire police said: "He worked at Maltby Colliery until around 1980 when he retired."
"Mr Fell is believed to have survived his only sibling and officers have been trying to trace his relatives since his disappearance."
Anyone who knows of any of Mr Fells relatives is asked to contact DC Jamie Henderson of Rotherham CID on 01709 832261 or email jamie.henderson@southyorks.pnn.police.uk.
