Joe Brown returns to rock with his ukelele

Joe Brown

Joe Brown

Joe Brown and his band never fail to put on a good show.

His live band is second to none and his own musicianship is beyond doubt. And he is coming to Sheffield and Nottingham this spring.

He plays guitar, mandolin, fiddle and ukulele.

With an acoustic set and a rousing electric one, he covers the 50-plus years of his career bringing it bang up to date with the ukulele songs featured on his current CD The Ukulele Album.

Joe can justifiably lay claim to being the current King of the Ukulele. He has been cited by some of the world’s biggest rock performers as a world class player.

The ukulele has been an instrument Joe has always loved and played. In 1963 it even got him into trouble.

Joe was one of the very first artists to have a record banned by the BBC - his recording of the old George Formby song With My Little Ukulele In My Hand was deemed way too risqué.

In 2002 he brought the house down as he closed The Concert For George with I’ll See You In My Dreams, released as a single on 23rd December and in 2009 he launched his own Joe Brown ukulele Signature Series.

Joe is joined on the album not only by daughter Sam and her ukulele pupils but also his four strong band including his producer son Pete.

Pete joins his father on tour playing guitar, lap steel guitar, uke, mandolin and mandola.

This Spring sees Joe play 34 dates across the country, a measure of what a popular performer he is. Now in his seventies he is possibly also the last British guitarist to span the divides between the music hall tradition, skiffle and rock ‘n’ roll – and he is certainly the hardest working.

Joe’s career has covered all aspects of entertainment and his popularity has never waned.

His music is contemporary while his shows embrace both new and old.

Recently awarded an MBE and a Mojo Award for services to music, Joe is one artist who can justifiably claim the title National Treasure.

Joe comes to Sheffield City Hall on 15th March and Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on 16th March.

Tickets are on sale now from all usual box offices and ticket outlets and are priced from £16 to £32.50 depending on venue.
