Dinnington Guardian's Kerry begins fitness quest

"I HOPE by doing this I can be an inspiration to others." These are the words of Dinnington and Maltby Guardian sales administrator Kerry Dodd, as she sets out on a quest for a healthier lifestyle.

And the Guardian will be following Kerry's weight loss and fitness regime over the coming months – in the paper and online – as she strives to achieve her goals.

Rather than a specific weight loss target, Dinnington resident Kerry hopes to be able to run next year's Race for Life in memory of her late father John Bird.

"I could have taken part this year and walked it," said the 35-year-old. "But I want to be fit enough to run it in 2009."

Kerry has a son Dominic, nine, and a seven-year-old stepson James. She says another reason for plunging headlong into this venture is to keep up with the energetic pair.

"I have tried things like this before," said Kerry. "But this time feels different. I feel more motivated to do it for myself and I'm going for it 100 per cent."

"It's for health reasons rather than image reasons, and I'm sure knowing people are reading about my progress in the Guardian and online will keep me going."

Kerry is being supported in her endeavours by Slimming World and Dinnington's Pace Fitness Centre.

"I was delighted to be involved," said Slimming World consultant Kath Naylor. "Kerry is the same age as my son and I've known her from childhood. I feel honoured that she's chosen to join Slimming World for her weight loss campaign."

When she joined last week, Kerry was told of the eating plan, the company policy and the importance of change.

"I have asked Kerry for a full commitment to her weight loss," said Kath.

"This is for life. And I know with her determination and enthusiasm, and the support of those around her, success is just around the corner."
